Mike Thomas AKA Mike From Maine – Hangout Cash Code Interview

Mike Main, Chris Cole & Mark Salmon

In the pre-launch phase of Hangout Cash Code, we have also been interviewed by Mike Thomas, also known as Mike From Maine.

Mike runs a very popular video interview business via Skype and we were flattered to be asked for an interview.  As I said to him, ‘I almost feel that I know you’ even though we had never spoken or met.  He said ‘that is the power of what I do’ and I suppose that is the real power of Google Hangouts too.

This format of interviewing other people or presenting face-to-face is extremely powerful because of the ability to create relationships with people.  As we have repeatedly said in our interviews and also inside the product – it’s the ability to quickly establish the ‘know like and trust’ factor that makes this format a winner.

When you combine that power with the ability to quickly and easily rank your videos so that you get viewers, it immediately becomes the primary way to create content that converts in our opinion.  That’s why you should pick up a copy of The Hangout Cash Code here.

In fact, after listening to Chris and I, Mike Thomas is swapping over to Google Hangouts himself – so that is the ultimate endorsement because he already has a very successful business format and can see the benefit of moving over to Hangouts.

Here is the Hangout Cash Code interview with Mike Thomas aka Mike From Maine:

James Knight & Kristie Chiles Interview re The Hangout Cash Code

Yesterday I was interviewed by James Knight & Kristie Chiles about The Hangout Cash Code.  You can see the interview below and as you will see they are gracious interviewers.

I was thrilled to meet them as I have bought some of their video products in the past and their training will no doubt have influenced some of the content in The Hangout Cash Code!

They told me that they currently have around 15,000 keen followers in their Facebook Group including myself.

Unfortunately, Chris Cole, my partner, was unable to make the call for personal reasons but this is why having a partner is so useful – they can pick up the slack if needed!

Here is the interview – you will see that James & Kristie major on the affiliate product which we sold through Google Hangouts but the uses of this technology really go much further than that.  Chris and I have identified numerous ways to monetise Google Hangouts.

The Hangout Cash Code launches tomorrow (1st August 2014) at 11 a.m. EST or 4 p.m. GMT. But before that we have another interview to do with Mike Thomas aka Mike From Maine.

It was great to meet James Knight and Kristie Chiles about The Hangout Cash Code on their James & Kristie Show and they were so generous with their offers of help that I really feel that we have made some good friends here.

Han Fan Is Promoting Hangout Cash Code

Han FanHan Fan (the internet man) is promoting Hangout Cash Code which launches on 1st August 2014 at 3 p.m. EST.

The interview took place at around 2 a.m. in the morning so if Chris Cole and I look a little tired and our mind is wandering from time to time, you know why!  Chris is currently holding down a full-time job as well as doing his internet marketing so this was a tough call but this is what it takes to succeed.

Han Fan is a super-affiliate – in other words he makes a large full-time income from promoting other peoples products which is why Chris and I were prepared to go the extra mile for him.  If Han Fan is behind us, it guarantees a fast start to our launch and some good EPC’s.

It is worth watching this replay just to see how he operates as an interviewer.  Prior to the interview, we received a series of generic questions in a document and this enabled us to think about our responses in advance.  Prior to the interview starting, Han Fan also talked about what he wanted to cover and how we would respond to ensure that we were ready.

Don’t forget that this is how he makes his living so whatever you think about the interview just know that this is a successful formula for him.  You can then model his success for yourself.

The other important point that I want you to get from this interview is the role that we see Hangouts playing in building our online relationships – this is absolutely critical.

Relationships are critical in business and it is difficult to create online hiding behind our computers – it takes time, consistency, effort and skill so the point that Han Fan makes about the fact that you are dealing with ‘real people’ is well made because it is easy to forget when you are dealing with a hidden audience.

Chris and I can already see that Hangouts will be a major part of our strategy to build the ‘know like and trust’ factor to increase our sales conversions and to improve the lives of our customers.  The story I tell about how I started in consulting by leveraging my previous banking relationships is 100% true.

Relationships do not appear in any balance sheet but just know that this is really where the money is, not that I think of relationships in those terms.  If you just have a passion to help other people to improve their lives then this is the correct mindset to have.

In order to enable you to do this and expand your sphere of influence, you do need to sustain yourself financially and also to finance the lifestyle you want.  So the money is only important from that perspective but ultimately you will only be rewarded to the extent that you find a way to add value to other peoples lives and thereby gaining their trust that you can deliver what they want.

With that said, here’s the interview (and note that he has spelt my name wrong in the video title and description!)

Digital Forensics Course – Fast Ranking in YouTube

I’m pitching to a business, CCL Group, which runs a digital forensics course here in Stratford-upon-Avon.

I had the crazy idea that rather than telling them that I knew a little bit about SEO and video marketing, why don’t I just make a 2 minute video and rank it.  So this is just a test and not requested by the client.

Note how the red splash image stands out on the page – nice strategy!!

These rankings were achieved without any backlinks.  If I had to bid for the keyword ‘digital forensics course’ in Google Adwords, the suggested bid is £6.17 per click and competition is ‘High’.

Here is the video and below it you will see that I was ranking on page one of YouTube for the keyword ‘digital forensics course’ within 1 minute of upload and multiple other related keywords:

The Fisherman Analogy

Danny-&-bookv1The Fisherman Analogy: I am currently going through The IM System by Kenster – this is a comprehensive training on the art and science of internet marketing with a heavy emphasis on the importance of mindset.

One of the interesting articles in THE IM System makes the analogy between internet entrepreneurs and the fisherman who had bought a rod and reel and decided to go fishing.  He went to the lake and spent a frustrating day trying to catch fish with his new tackle.

At the end of a long, hot day when he had caught nothing, after trying various spots around the lake, he walked dispiritedly away from the lake.  On the way back to his car he met an old fisherman who greeted him with the words – “I’ve rarely had a better fishing day in my life.  They were really biting today.”

Our newbie fisherman just grunted and passed on – he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.  He had the right tackle and he’d fished hard all day, surely the old fisherman couldn’t be right.

Our newbie fisherman is very like many internet entrepreneurs.  They have all the tools of the trade and they jump from ‘fishing’ spot to fishing spot on the internet but rarely catch anything.

They know there are fish in the lake but they have a poor habits and a poor mindset.

After a little effort, they soon give up and move on to something else little realising that most methods will work if the right techniques are employed.   Many internet fisherman get caught in a perpetual cycle, moving from opportunity to opportunity little realising that they need to change their habits.

They don’t understand that ‘buying a rod and reel doesn’t make them a fisherman.’  They are ‘wannabees’!

Doing the exact same things that an experienced fisherman does makes you a fisherman.  If you don’t have the right habits and are not doing what experienced and successful internet entrepreneurs are doing, you are not an internet entrepreneur.  You are a ‘wannabee’.

If you sit down right now and think about what you should be doing to be a successful internet entrepreneur, I’m willing to bet that you could come up with a list of things that you should be doing but you are not doing to grow your business.

If you are serious about growing your business, start doing those things on your list right now.

You may be saying at this point that you don’t know what successful entrepreneurs are doing to make money on the internet.  Notwithstanding this, if you just fix those bad habits it’s likely you are going to see a substantial lift in your income just through following your own advice.

When you have the right habits, things just start to fall into place which is why many successful businessman can move from industry to industry and still be successful – they just keep on applying the right habits.

What are some of these habits? Things like:

  • increasing your productivity within your allocated working hours
  • running your business by the numbers
  • systemising your business so you can outsource aspects of your activities
  • focusing on your sales and marketing activities
  • working on your business, rather than in it – planning and strategising your way forward e.g. knowing how much you need to sell this month and then working out how you are going to do it!
  • not jumping from shiny object to shiny object.

And so on.

I bet you can come up with your own list of things that you know you should be doing.

In my own case, I realised that once I had products to sell, perhaps 90% of my time should be spent in marketing and selling those products rather than starting to create a new product.  I love creating products so I find it difficult to allocate marketing time because I constantly have new product ideas.  As I sit here writing this post I have at least 4 or 5 products I would like to be creating!

Often if you can’t get some internet marketing method or strategy to work properly, the problem lies with YOU rather than the method or strategy.  If you spend any time online at all, you hear people saying that this or that method no longer works.

People were saying that about the ‘interview method’ of making products when one of my IM colleagues launched his copywriting interview products and made 600 front-end sales on only his second ever product launch.  Luckily he didn’t know that this method of product creation didn’t work any longer, according to some people!

So if you have tried multiple methods and opportunities without success, perhaps it is time to take a close look at your habits – look for the problem on the ‘inside’ rather than ‘outside’ of yourself?

If you are really uncertain about the right habits to adopt, find a good coach to help you – an experienced fisherman who is already getting the results that you are seeking.

If you adopt the mindset that YOU are fully responsible for the results you are currently getting, then that is the first step to realising that YOUR habits need to change in order to reach your desired goals.  It’s not this or that method that is at fault – it’s really down to you and your habits.

By taking 100% responsibility for your results you are well on the way to achieving the success you desire.

Of course, it can help greatly if you can find someone who is creating the results that you desire i.e. catching lots of fish. This is where getting a good coach and mentor can short-cut your route to success.  So if you can find and afford such a person, then this is well worth doing (but select that person with care after doing your due diligence.)

In the case of our fishing analogy, you would simply seek the advice of the old experienced fisherman.  No doubt he will instantly spot what you are doing wrong and put you back on the right path to success.

If you are getting dispirited by the stories of other peoples success, then you are not adopting the correct mindset.  You should be using those stories to motivate you because they are additional evidence that the same success is also open to you.

Just realise that if you want to get different results than those that you are currently getting, then you need to change your habits (and you probably already know what many of those changes need to be!)

So rather than jumping around from fishing spot to fishing spot, or lake to lake, start by looking at your habits first and you’ll be amazed by how things start to work themselves out and by how many fish you start catching.

These changes in your habits are well within your power to start doing.

I hope your found the fisherman analogy helpful and inspiring and I look forward to inspecting your prodigious catch!

Hangout Cash Code Is Coming!

Hangout-Cash-Code-Website-500-x-350For several weeks now I have been working on a product entitled Hangout Cash Code in partnership with Chris Cole.

At the beginning of the year, I set myself the goal of really mastering Google Hangouts as part of my 2014 business plan.  So when Chris Cole approached me to help him to build out Hangout Cash Code, I leapt at the opportunity.

Chris is a fellow coaching student who is talented in a number of areas such as video creation and graphics and he has high product creation standards.

Some of the tutorials within Hangout Cash Code are animated videos made with VideoMakerFX and others are Hangout recordings of trainings made with Mindmaps that cover a particular topic.  The front-end product will be an e-book on Hangouts that has yet to written.

Overall, I have enjoyed the process of using Hangouts and working with a partner is very beneficial because it provides a safety net whilst you are still learning.  For example, on one of our live webinars I was unable to share my screen so Chris immediately leapt in to rescue me.  If you are on your own, you have to somehow work this out on your own which greatly increases the pressure.

Also, having someone as the ‘cameraman’ who controls what the audience sees on their screen is important as is having someone to handle the questions while you are speaking.

The only way to master a technology like Google Hangouts and webinars is through practice until you become confident and comfortable.

By making this product, both Chris and I have gradually realised all the opportunities and possibilities that Google Hangouts can offer any business and we are both excited to be mastering this technology and to be revealing our findings through Hangout Cash Code.

The other benefit that we have gained from creating this product is to experiment with both Webinar Jam and Webinar Ignition – these are two front-end applications for facilitating the running of webinars and the registration process.

To improve the structure and content of my webinars, I am currently going through another training entitled Webinar Expert Academy but this has been hampered by the slow delivery of the training.  However, this is the funnel model that I will be implementing in future as a result of this training:

WEA Sales Funnel

Having experiment with Google Hangouts and Google Hangouts on Air, I can easily foresee that this is going to be one of the main tools in my business going forward.

If you want to see why I am so excited by this technology, then look out for Hangout Cash Code which is due for launch on 1st August 2014.  If you join my list, I will keep you informed of the launch details and in the meantime you can read my free report entitled Badass Hangouts to whet your appetite.

Alternatively, you can read my free report called Webinar Riches whilst waiting for Hangout Cash Code to launch.

The Internet Marketing Model Explained

This diagram lays out the basic internet marketing model that applies to all online businesses.  There are nuances to this model that will impact on your success but this is the core model.

Nuances could be things like:

  • creating content in multiple modalities to encourage consumption
  • exit pop-ups on squeeze and sales pages
  • viral sharing incentives
  • use of graphics and design to engage visitors
  • use of psychology in your copy and offers
  • positioning
  • your mindset and goals
  • the quality of your training
  • your ability to manage your time effectively to get results
  • choice of niche and your competition
  • testimonials and proof of results
  • quality of the traffic source – for example, warm traffic from affiliates will convert better than cold traffic from advertising or SEO
  • and many, many more

All my products are designed to teach various aspects of this model because it is impossible to deliver everything within one product.  So for example:

Sketch Videos – Another Video Format

I’ve just added the ability to make sketch videos to the video formats that I can create.

Here is the first test video that I made:

This is a very rough and ready test but I think it shows the potential of this format where it is possible to spend a lot of money to get this type of video for promotional purposes.

I will continue to develop my skills with this software in order to use it to its maximum as sketch videos are a popular video format that engages viewers.

Ranked #1 On YouTube Within 17 Minutes

I have uncovered a technique for getting ranked #1 on YouTube within 17 minutes for my chosen keyword.  This was just a test to see if it works.

No 1 for Earn1KADay on YouTube in minutes

My video may have ranked even quicker than 17 minutes because it took me 17 minutes to check the ranking after posting the video!

This did not involve any back-linking or paying for views or paying for traffic – it was just pure on-page SEO and video marketing.

Furthermore, I used Google Hangouts on Air to make the video so it literally took less than 10 minutes from end to end because I did not script it and just opened up Hangouts and just started talking.

I do, of course, need to test my technique from end to end but the initial results are encouraging.

It will be interesting to how long the video can maintain its ranking without backlinks and then, if I throw some backlinks at it, how long it will take to recover its ranking.

Now I am going to work on scripting and systemising my promotional videos to ensure that they are of high quality and have a clear call to action.  I’m also going to test this with animated videos.

I’ll keep you updated about what else I can get ranked #1 on YouTube and just how quickly it happens as I will be rolling out a lot more promotional videos in the near future.

Here are the results of another test (- sorry about the poor audio quality!):

What To Do When You Have Products To Sell

Do you know what to do when you have products to sell?

The answer is not ‘create another product’!  (which is what I have tended to do over the last few years.)

Here is what Dennis Becker said in a recent thread on Facebook:

Eric Louviere recommends spending 90% of your time on sales, which means promotion, until you’ve reached the income level you’re seeking (I think he was talking about a 6-figure annual income). Of course you can’t sell what you don’t have, so that implies that you have product(s) to sell. I agree with Eric.

This is a very important point that resonated with me because I spend far too much of my time on product creation and not enough time on promotion.

The reason for that is that I love the creative process – see my last blog post where a test revealed this fact to me

However, there is no reason why you cannot get creative in promoting your products too by creating videos, graphics, emails, blog posts, audio podcasts that promote your products and content.

I already have a great range of products with more in the pipeline so I definitely need to spend more time promoting them.

The figure of 90% seems a bit surprising but when I really think about it, that seems about right to me.

However, I would add one very important piece of advice to this…

It is extremely important to monitor and measure the results of your promotional activity in order to find out what works so you can invest more in that activity.  This involves link tracking and conversion tracking to optimise your results in order to focus your energies in the right place.

It also goes without saying that you also need to deliver more value than you are charging for if your ultimate goal is to create a loyal customer base so if your product needs improvement then do that before you start promoting.

It is also important to remember that the internet is vast – you cannot exhaust the potential pool of ready buyers for your product – it is simply your job to make them aware about the benefits of your product and how it can improve their life.   So having an abundant mindset is key.

In the past I have advocated spending 2 hours on product creation, 2 hours on email marketing and 2 hours on promotional activities.  Clearly that ratio is not correct although email marketing is a promotional activity.

Far better to have one high quality product and promote that until the cows come home.

This advice is golden – don’t ignore it.

If you are having trouble focusing on what you should be doing i.e. promoting your products, then these tips may help:

  1. Manage Your Mood
  2. Don’t Check Email in The Morning
  3. Before You Try To Do It Faster, Ask Whether It Should Be Done At All
  4. Focus Is Nothing More Than Eliminating Distractions
  5. Have A Personal System
  6. Define Your Goals The Night Before

Here’s a link to the full article: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/bakadesuyo/~3/CfNXUNDLfQ0/#ixzz33gYTrUHA

Hopefully, you now know what to do when you have products to sell – you sell, sell, sell!

Is Poor Copywriting Killing Your Conversions?

If you are failing to make sales online, have you considered whether or not poor copywriting is killing your conversions?  It doesn’t matter how good your product is – if you cannot get it into the hands of customers then it will not have the opportunity to be a success.

The definition of copywriting in Wikipedia is this:

“Copywriting is writing copy for the purpose of advertising or marketing. The copy is meant to persuade someone to buy a product, or influence their beliefs.”

This definition implies that writing with the purpose of selling something is a different kind of writing.  Copywriting is therefore a skill that has to be acquired because it is different to the normal way that you write.

Top copywriters can command large fees because creating copy that converts well is a highly-regarded skill which will make or break the sales of your products and services.

Perhaps the biggest mistake made by online entrepreneurs is the failure to create copy that converts well.

If you fail in this area, your sales will be sub-optimal, your traffic will be expensive because you have to drive more of it to reach your sales  goals and you will find it difficult to attract affiliates.

A LOT of your success or otherwise will be dependant on your copy.

I was therefore interested to find a product called Advantage Bot (- a horrible name! -) which can predict whether or not your copy will convert well with an 85% success rate.

AdvantageBot contains a built-in database of over two hundred and seventy thousand profitable and unprofitable ads. It allows you to score your own text against this database for profitability.

Advantage Bot

You can use this tool for:

  • Sales pages – to craft killer headlines, body copy, stronger bullet points, powerful calls to action and more
  • Email marketing – to create subject lines to boost your open rates and powerful calls to action to increase the click through rate
  • Ad campaigns – to boost the click through rate and to reduce your testing costs
  • Scripts – use the tool to create your video scripts to increase conversions

I own Advantage Bot and you will find that it throws up some interesting results.  For example, if you are looking for the wording for a call to action button, you can put variations into Advantage Bot to determine which has been scientifically proven to convert better – is it ‘Buy Now’ or ‘Add to Cart’?

If you chose the latter option then you would be right!  But you wouldn’t know it without testing – this tool removes the need for testing. Here is an outline of the scoring system:

Advantage Bot Scoring System

However, you may still want to test whether it works for you and whether you can improve your results.  So Advantage Bot also comes with a little tool called A/B Optmizer which allows you to split-test any of your copy just to check that Advantage Bot was correct – Advantage Bot is statistically right only 85% of the time so it is not fool-proof!  This is how the AB Optimizer interface looks – really clean and simple:

AB Optimizer

Here are some useful copywriting tips that came with Advantage Bot:

I recently held a Hangout with Carl Picot who has released a product called Millionaire Copywriting Mastermind.  If you listen in to this interview Carl you will hear that we both agree that copywriting is possibly THE most important skill for an internet marketer.

Millionaire Copywriting Mastermind is a collection of interviews with some of the top copywriters around today who reveal some of the methods that make them some of the most in-demand copywriters.  Whilst Advantage Bot will enable you to carry out tests without spending money, Millionaire Copywriting Mastermind will help you to come up with the copy to test so both products complement each other.

If you purchase either Advantage Bot or Millionaire Copywriting Mastermind through my links then I would be happy to give you a copy of my report entitled ‘The Ultimate Copywriting Swipe File’ which is a report that I prepared based on a thread in the Warrior Forum where the Warriors revealed their favourite copywriting  swipes.  I compiled this information into a handy little report with links to the resources.

If poor copywriting is killing your conversions then these two products – Advantage Bot (which comes with A/B Optimizer) and Millionaire Copywriting Mastermind – will undoubtedly help you.

Webinar Alchemy

I’ve just purchased a course called Webinar Alchemy by Glen Kirkham.  It is a high-ticket course but the webinar was presented so well that I wanted to learn how to do it myself.

As you will know from previous posts, I am sniffing around Google Hangouts.  In fact, I am creating a product called ‘Hangout Cash Code’ with Chris Cole:

Hangout-Cash-Code-Website-500-x-350

As at the time of writing, the membership site is ready to receive content and we have the content all set-out on a mind map.  The product will be completed by the end of May with a view to launching the product in June.

So I purchased access to Webinar Alchemy to learn how to structure webinar presentations properly.  I also have Jason Fladlian’s product – Webinar Legend.  So there is nothing to stop me implementing Webinars – I have the technology and the strategy.  I just need to take action.

The technology I intend to use is:

  • Google Hangouts on air
  • Webinar Ignition facilitating the registration process and live streaming from my website
  • I also have Evergreen Business Systems to convert my webinars to automated evergreen webinars (although I believe that you can do this with Webinar Ingnition too.)

So why do I badly want to crush it with webinars – well apart from Live speaking events, they are the highest-converting method for promoting my products and services.  I want to become a ninja presenter so I can help more people to grow an online business.

On the front end of my funnel, I have 4 free reports:

report-large

Bad-Ass-Hangouts-ecover-700-x652report-large

(Referring to Whiteboard Presentations, I bought VideoMakerFX this week that enables me to create awesome whiteboard presentations plus a wide variety of awesome video formats.)

As you can see this ‘Webinar Alchemy’ of products and training is developing into a perfect storm – look out for my webinars coming shortly!

Creating Videos with VideoMakerFX

I am now able to create videos with VideoMakerFX.

I have the Pro version of this great product and it really is a game-changer.

I have decided to offer a service where I will create videos for other businesses and created this promotional video for this new service:

I was already able to create videos in a variety of formats including screen-share, green-screen, webcam videos, Hangout videos etc but this puts the icing on the cake because access to programmes that can make videos like this normally cost a hefty recurring fee.  I have bought the software and templates for a one-time fee subject to annual maintenance charges.

Making videos using VideoMakerFX can be sold as a service to other businesses or I can simply create videos to promote my own, or other peoples, products and services for profit.

I am in the process of developing a new product called Hangout Cash Code with my friend Chris Cole, so video is the hot-topic of the month.

I’m looking forward to creating videos with VideoMakerFX that are simply incredible.

Webinars & Bad @$$ Hangouts

Google Hangouts have given marketers a low-cost entry into creating webinars – it’s a technology that I intend to master for my own business.

Webinars have great conversion rates and coupled with Google Hangouts, that rank well for keywords on Google, represent a great way to create content and to market your business.

Here are a few ways that we can use Hangouts in our businesses:

  • we can create lessons, either free or unpaid, that help our customers and demonstrate our expertise.  Google have taken this to the next level to create Google Helpouts.
  • we can create workshops and training for a Group of students.  I think this is the way forward for education – by providing recordings, students can learn at their own pace.
  • Hangouts are a great way of creating demonstrations of products – demos are a great use of the technology
  • what about creating marketing presentations with Google Hangouts?  You can cover the full benefits of the product and also handle questions and objections from the viewers.
  • one of my colleagues has just created an interview product that launched with 560 front-end sales – interviews are a great way of using Hangouts.  You can even have more than one expert in the Hangout – infact up to 10 people including yourself!
  • I haven’t yet mentioned webinars.  Prior to Google Hangouts, webinar technology was relatively expensive, with leading providers demanding hefty monthly fees. Google Hangouts have made the technology available to everyone.
  • communicating with partners and staff is now made much easier with Google Hangouts.  This is a great way of holding an online meeting or colaberation.
  • what about providing customer support through Google Hangouts?  I’ve not seen it done yet but it is perfectly feasible.  I have seen it used for a monthly Q & A session with customers to demonstrate product features and to get feedback.
  • you can also use Hangouts for announcements and news items.

In my mind, Google Hangouts is just a question of being prepared to master the technology – the more that you do, the better you will get.

You just need to be a little mindful of copyright – make sure that you do not infringe copyright with any of the material, images, music, background items in your videos.  It would be very easy to inadvertently infringe copyright if you do not remain vigilant.

With these thoughts in mind, I have added a report entitled ‘Bad @$$ Hangouts’ to my site – you can get it for free here.

Free Background Images

As a bonus to a video product I have just bought was a package of nice free background images with a reseller license.

These images were part of a previous paid product by Todd Gross and he has now bundled them as a bonus with a new product.

I therefore though that I would offer these to my subscribers.  The only drawback is that the images are all from the US.  In due course, I may add to the package by steadily taking some pictures in the UK.

There is an optional upsell to purchase a collection of video backgrounds that are perfect for optin pages and green screen video purposes.

The free images can be downloaded here in return for an optin.

Here a few examples of images in the free package:

My Latest Challenge – At Least One WSO A Week

I’m preparing for my latest challenge – at least one WSO a week.

That’s quite a challenge for me since I have not launched many WSO’s.  (Also, I am babysitting my grandchildren for part of the time in April during the Easter break.)

I first came across the idea of launching multiple  WSO’s from Sean Mize when I bought his WSO entitled ‘How you can make a full-time income selling WSO’s in 2014’.

Sean set himself a target of doing 150 WSO’s in 2013 but came up short on his target – he ONLY did 80!  However, that was enough to generate $65k in sales.

Was it a coincidence then when two of my online colleagues, who know about my product creation skills, approached me to partner on creating a business where we launch one WSO a week?

I will focus on product creation whilst they focus on traffic and email marketing.  We would share the list of buyers.

My first thoughts were that I could be working flat out 100% of the time whilst my partners had the easy end of the stick and would also have time to run their solo ads and coaching business.  They do, however, have a large list from their solo ads business!

On reflection, I think that this partnership would be little different to a normal affiliate relationship and I have decided that it would be worth trying for a month or two and then review progress at the end of April or end of May.

The products would of course be ‘one problem, one solution’ type products that can be consumed within one hour and will sell at $5 to $7 on the front end and up to $17 on the back-end. The back-end will be built from existing products and former WSO’s most of which will be taken down after 7 days or the price increased.

Each product will be on a membership site to cross-sell other products and services.  I will create a membership site clone for fast deployment and easy branding.

Products will be sold through Warrior Plus where I will also be doing product research.  Existing buyers might also tell me what they would like to learn to generate more ideas, if I take the trouble to ask them.

The key to monetisation is the email marketing on the back-end to cross-sell more products.  I would like to get up to 2 or 3 WSO’s a week when I have refined the system but it is important not to run before I can walk!

Initially I am thinking in terms of planning my time like this:

  • – research – 1 day
  • – product planning & sales letter – 1 day
  • – product creation & membership site – 2 days
  • – WSO set-up & funnel testing etc – 1 day
  • – weekend as a buffer and to enable me to do other things and you to do product quality control.

Compared to what Sean Mize advocates, I am planning to take far too long on each part but initially I want to start off ‘slow’ and then if I can get it up to 2 or 3 a week, try for that rather than saying I can do it off the bat.

I think the important thing is to work out a system i.e.

  • carry out research for several products at the same time and / or utilise my existing products better by repackaging them
  • get the planning done in an hour
  • sales letter written in an hour
  • product created in 1 to 3 hours
  • clone a membership site for fast deployment
  • get familiar with Warrior Plus and membership site and auto-responder integration

This will require extreme focus in order to consistently churn out high-quality low-priced products week-after-week.  (Here is a product idea already – showing other people how I am doing it.)

So there it is – my latest challenge is at least one WSO a week.

Tiger Feet Website Launch Today

The new Tiger Feet website launch is today, less than one week after I accepted the brief from my customer.

The first iteration of the website went by the board within 24 hours!  After a discussion with my customer, I realised that she wanted some enhancements to the design that the previous theme I was using couldn’t really handle.  So I simply changed the theme.

However, the new theme was quite time-consuming and complicated to configure and I spent a long time on Photoshop to make my client’s images really ‘pop’ by removing the backgrounds to bring the main images into stark relief.

You will also see that I am using a very nice slider and a nice portfolio widget to present her images.

I also guided my client on the type of content I would like to see on her pages and she was very responsive in providing it to me.  I then formatted it to present it nicely and with some extra marketing impact.

I think this is one of my best website builds yet – a client who knew what she wanted and helped me to respond quickly to her requests.

These are some of the comments I have had from my client by email:

[boxibt style=”success” bordercolor=”black” bgcolor=”yellow” fontcolor=”red”] “I am really loving the new website!”

“It’s fantastic! I love it! “[/boxibt]

Tiger Feet website v2

Earlier this year, I created a website for my sister and she said that she would add the content.  Guess what?  She approached me yesterday and asked me to add the content which she has created!  So that is my next job.

I’ve also been approached today by two of my online colleages:

  • one wants to discuss partnering with me – since he is a master of solo ad traffic, this is interesting to me
  • the other wants me to check over his membership site and sales funnel prior to launch in 2 days time

I’m also wanting to create my next product ‘Honey-Trap funnels and I also have 3 squeeze page products I want to get online, including the email follow-up sequences.  On top of that, I yesterday invested in Kensters ‘The IM System’ so I have that to go through as well.

To bring me back to earth, I lost my car key and front-door key whilst walking the dog today – I think my head is somewhere else at present but I’m really loving the fact that I have plenty to do.  (I had to get my wife out of the bath to let me back into my house – anyone passing would have seen a naked lady wrapped in a towel letting me into the house and would be wondering what was happening!)

Hope you have time to head over to view the Tiger Feet website launch and please feel free to leave a comment below and let me know what you think of the website.

The Power of Our Personal Story

I think we all under-estimate the power of our personal story.  Hopefully this article will make you think about how you are using your personal story in your business.

I am currently thinking hard about mine.

My sister is taking speaking lessons from a top speaker called Bo Eason and I discovered the video below which I think you will find fascinating – it’s entitled The Power of Your Personal Story.

He makes the point that we are each our own global brand – we are each completely unique and it’s the only completely unique brand that most of us own and it can’t be replicated by anyone else.

It’s then a question as to what extent we can touch other people with our story and how many people we can reach with our story.

Watch closely how Bo uses his whole body to express himself to tell his story.

He also makes the point that our job as entrepreneurs is an expression of who we are and if we tell our story correctly our clients will get caught up in the whirlwind which is our dream for our business.

People want YOUR story because that’s the best story we have, it’s our biggest asset and it is ours and ours alone.

You may be thinking that you don’t have a good story to tell, but Bo Eason easily deals with that objection in the video , so it is well worth watching – observe closely because this guy is charging wads of money as a speaking consultant (- my sister is paying $15,000 for a 3-day group consultation to perfect her 3 minute personal story -) and you are getting this for free!

(Note – the video starts slowly but stay with it and you will be rewarded – just after 4 minutes it really gets going.)

If you get this, you will have the power to affect others with the delight you take in yourself!  That’s the power of our personal story…

N.B. Coincidence – at 17:31, the blonde lady sitting to the right of the bloke speaking (as you look at the video) is Ann Sieg. It was her training that started me off in internet marketing. A very classy lady and an excellent marketer who mainly trains network marketers.

A Source of Free Graphics You May Have Overlooked

In this video I outline a source of free graphics that you may have overlooked.

In fact it is a completely authentic and engaging source of graphics that will be great for your personal branding. It is easy to build up a nice library of graphics that you can use in future projects and they will be free of copyright or royalty restrictions – indeed, you own the copyright!

Are you ready for me to reveal this source?  Then watch this video:

Now that you have your free graphics, you can take them to one of the graphical editors and make variations of your images.  For example:

You can create photo distortions on PicHacks.com or your iPad:

You can create sketches, like this one of my grandson.  I will cover how to do this in another video (- subscribe if you want to find out how!):

You can combine pictures:

Here’s another great tip for getting free images from video (-this one has my new video intro and outro):

Here’s an image clipped from this video with Snagit:

The possibilities are almost endless. As I said, this may be a source of free graphics that you had previously overlooked… but not anymore!

Green Screen Video – The New Frontier

For me, green screen video is the new frontier.

I’ve been watching my online friends, Chris Cole and Matthew Houghton, creating incredible videos and have been wondering how they did it.

(If you want to join in the magic then this is the Facebook Group that you need to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/580398582047648/ and I recommend that you subscribe to Chris Cole’s YouTube Channel http://www.youtube.com/imchriscole  and you will be impressed by the great information he is just giving away about video marketing and YouTube)

I therefore invested in a studio background cloth and stand.  This was a partial fail for two reasons:

  • I had inadequate lighting
  • I had a white background that was difficult to remove effectively in my video editing software

I therefore bought a couple of studio lights off eBay.  I discovered why they were so cheap – just one bulb in each!  However, as I am filming in my small office, I think I will get away with this.  However, my friends have much more powerful lighting – 4 bulbs in each which enables them to use a bigger space for filming.

Despite the new lighting, the white background was still not working, so I invested in a green background cloth.

This time, I had success – here is my first test.  This is not perfect by any means but it does represent a break-through for me.  Hopefully, I will now be able to go on and raise my game.

I have also created a new video outro that I will start to use on my videos – the creative options are enormous with video – feeling excited:

Green screen video may not be a new frontier for you, but it is for me!

Sales Mindset : Have You Got What It Takes?

Have you got what it takes to make it in sales or in business?  This video clip pretty much tells you how it is and the sales mindset required for success.

The 5 minute message is – give up now if you haven’t got what it takes and go and get a job.

As Frank Kern says: ‘Stop being a pussy!’

The section from 18:20 to 23:05 is one of the best responses to the question “Is this guaranteed to work?” And that section is also the most inspiring and motivating “sales speech” I’ve ever heard.

Listen To Dennis Becker

I listen to Dennis Becker.  He’s someone that I can relate to.

He struggled for many years to make an income online.  He finally made a breakthrough by successfully promoting the Xbox with Google Adwords and has not looked back.

Now he runs a membership site called Earn1KADay.  It is just about the only recurring membership that I currently subscribe to (and have done now for several years).

It has withstood the test of time!  That’s because it offers massive value.

The site encompasses a community of internet marketers and includes:

  • several discussion forums
  • a lot of PLR and Resell products
  • a lot of coaching and advice

Dennis Becker is a really solid, honest, no-hype kind of guy.  He doesn’t have the fast-talking, sales delivery of some marketers but he is nevertheless a very astute marketer who has created a lot of products.

Two of my favourite products from Dennis are his eBook ‘5 Bucks-A-Day Revisited‘ and ‘Action Enforcer’, which is a time-management tool.

I also use many of the Earn 1KAday PLR products in my business including some very nice graphic templates.

I think there are now over 1,000 products in the Earn1KaDay download area – some are for personal use only.

More are made available every month because Dennis reinvests part of his income into new products.

However, be under no illusion, Earn1KAday represents a massive investment in your own education and gives you instant access to a lot of products that you can rebrand and sell yourself, as well as vital training information and help from the forum members.

Earn1KaDay gives you the capability of taking massive action in your business by giving access to the resources to make it possible.

It is one of my secrets for product creation – a lot of my product bonuses are products that I have obtained through Earn1KaDay.

Within Earn1KADay,  Dennis has started a coaching programme which is included as part of your membership and this is one of the first videos which gives really solid advice about what internet marketing is all about and what it takes to be successful:

What’s It All About?

If you like what you hear and are considering whether or not to join Earn1KADay, then click on this link.  I have been a paying member for at least 2 or 3 years and it carries my highest recommendation.

If you start with the monthly payment option, then you can see what is available before considering the lifetime membership option.

If you listen to Dennis Becker and follow his advice, then you won’t go too far wrong in my opinion.

Playing Around With Badges on Photoshop

It’s the weekend, so I did a bit of playing around with badges on Photoshop.  From a branding point of view it is always nice to have a few graphics in the locker.

I believe graphics play an important part in creating attractive and appealing marketing collateral.  Many coaches advocate that you should outsource your graphics to a graphic designer.

If you have little or no aesthetic taste, then this advice is sound but I do not like to put my branding and graphics into the hands of someone else who may have a very different interpretation of what your branding should be.

Plus, I would find it very frustrating to have to wait several days to get my graphics back from a designer.

That’s why I have gradually taught myself to handle my own graphics – like anything else it can easily be learned and there are plenty of free courses online – for example, you can get free courses at http://udemy.com on Photoshop.

To take the hard work out of creating graphics you can buy templates from a graphic designer for just a few dollars and then configure them for your own brand.  It took me about 20 minutes to create the badges below.

Why not leave a comment below and let me know which one you prefer?  Who knows, I might get you playing around with badges on Photoshop if you like what you see?

My WordPress Marketing System

In my last blog post, I mentioned that I was creating a WordPress Marketing System for my sister who is a health consultant called Wake Up To Health.

This overview video sets gives you an idea of what I have created for her.  I have created additional videos showing her how to get started with each part of the system.

PHNjcmlwdCB0eXBlPSJ0ZXh0L2phdmFzY3JpcHQiIHNyYz0iaHR0cDovL3JlbmVnYWRlLmV2c3VpdGUuY29tL3BsYXllci9WMVZVU0MxUGRtVnlkbWxsZHkwak1TNXRjRFE9Lz9jb250YWluZXI9ZXZwLVYxRk5YVUhETjUiPjwvc2NyaXB0PjxkaXYgaWQ9ImV2cC1WMUZOWFVIRE41IiBkYXRhLXJvbGU9ImV2cC12aWRlbyIgZGF0YS1ldnAtaWQ9IlYxVlVTQzFQZG1WeWRtbGxkeTBqTVM1dGNEUT0iPjwvZGl2Pg==

It is my intention to sell this system to other coaches and consultants for a set-up fee and modest monthly payments.

It has taken me almost 5 years to arrive at the combination of theme and plugins that make this system a marketing powerhouse.  That represents a massive shortcut and saving in time and money for anyone who purchases my system!

Setting Up Sales Funnels

Setting up sales funnels appears difficult if you are just starting out in internet marketing.  Let me show you how to make this easy on yourself.

Whilst I have created some funnels myself, I’ve not always been thrilled by the aesthetic result. I was therefore interested that someone on the Warrior Forum was offering their proven sales funnel for sale offering a collection of affiliate plugins on the back-end on the funnel to monetise the traffic immediately.

A great way to build a profitable list.

I decided to buy the funnel for 4 reasons:

  1. To install the funnel on my site – it is said to convert well
  2. The funnel has PLR rights included so you can steal my funnel here
  3. I wanted to reverse-engineer the funnel to understand how it has been constructed
  4. I want to build my own funnels by replacing the products in this funnel (- both my own products and relevant affiliate offers)

With regards to point 3, I am delighted to report that I can see how to alter all aspects of the funnel to create my own new funnels.  This is good news because I love the simple design.

Here are the respective pages of the funnel I purchased:

Page 1

Funnel 1 v2

Page 2

Funnel 1a v2

Page 3

Funnel 2 v2

Page 4

Funnel 3 v2

Page 5

Funnel 4 v2

Here are some things that I have learnt as a result of reverse-engineering the funnel:

  • the theme is called Simon Framework – a free theme that has been modified
  • the background colours are easily changed in the WordPress Editor, as is the header with the ‘WARNING’
  • all plugin offers are affiliate products on Clickbank – it is very easy to simply replace your Clickbank ID in the code and swap out the products on each page
  • the whole funnel is well systemised and easy to replicate and set-up – I set this whole funnel up in less than 1 hour on a new WordPress installation.
  • Page 2 redirects after 5 seconds using code called Meta Refresh – something I hadn’t come across before.  (The revolving button on this page is a simple gif that can be found free via a Google search)
  • the funnel comes with a 14 day auto-responder email series packed with more great offers
  • you also get a well-written swipe email to use for solo ad traffic generation.

The vendors of this funnel say that they have grossed over $24,000 from this funnel but they do not reveal how much they paid for the traffic that they drove to the squeeze page.

Let’s assume that it only broke even, which I doubt, then the addition of multiple hundreds of people to your list is worth a lot of money in its own right – this funnel alone has the potential to give me a very good income if worked correctly and the back-end profits are included.

But that’s not all – with the PLR Rights, I have the opportunity of also selling the funnel to other people to make money and to build new funnels with the same system.

The PLR funnel includes a front end offer which should be sold for $27 – $47 and then a back-end offer of $47.

As I said earlier in this article, buying a funnel as a product from an expert is a smart move in my opinion if you forensically examine the funnel to see how it has been constructed and then use it as a framework for constructing your own funnels.

It then becomes important to add some additional vital ingredients into the mix – namely, a process to measure and monitor your conversion rates and EPC from the funnel.

I will be testing this funnel and will report back in another post on how I set up the monitoring system and what the results have been from driving traffic to this funnel.

This funnel has already been extensively tested but, in circumstances where you are creating your own sales funnel, you will also need to split-test your pages in order to maximise conversions.

This is not just a theoretical exercise – you can visit the actual sales funnel that I have set up here:
http://mark-salmon.com/plugins/

Learning about setting up sales funnels for your business is much easier if you take this approach i.e. learn from an expert before you try to build your first sales funnel.

Later

I’ve sent around 70 clicks to this squeeze page from surplus traffic generated by a friends link rotator and it is converting at around 30% i.e. 21 optins – with higher quality traffic, my friend reckons that it should convert at around 40% or more.  I will send more traffic to this page a test it further!

What Am I Selling?

Every entrepreneur has to ask the question ‘What Am I Selling?

This is not a superficial question because it is critical to the way in which I market my business.

Charles Revlon said that whilst they manufactured cosmetics, they were really in the business of selling ‘Hope’ – selling ‘hope’ to women who wanted to look more beautiful.

We see this everywhere in brand selling – for example, the current Marks & Spencer Christmas advert weaves a magical illusion of Christmas and only at the end do you realise what is being sold when they post their name – a ‘magical’ Christmas courtesy of their products.  (They conveniently ignore the horrendous shopping experience and queues at the tills!)

The same goes with the sale of top-brand cars – they are selling a luxury lifestyle – beautiful women, sharp clothes, perpetual youth and intoxicating sophistication.  The car is almost an after-thought and cannot possibly live up to our expectations.

So this got me to thinking about ‘what am I selling?’  Yes, what am I really selling?

It’s certainly not information products about how to create an online business –  it’s really much more than that.  Yes, it’s a lot more than that!

My business is about offering freedom and independence to those currently working in a job that doesn’t fulfil them.

I did that for 25 years.

Yes, I made a good living but my spirit was strangled and suppressed by the burden of rules and obligation that are a necessary part of the corporate culture.

I wore a suit and tie for 25 years – I haven’t worn one since 2001 (other than for funerals and weddings to comply with social dress-code convention).  These are symbols of enslavement to me.

A tie is like a leash around my neck – just squeezing hard enough to remind me gently and persistently that I am in bondage to the organisation.

The rules within a corporate culture can be extremely onerous – you have to comply, whether you agree with them or not if you want to remain a part of the company.

Someone worked out in my last job that every week there were 9 hours of required reading to stay abreast of local and head office bulletins where the rules were continually changed and upgraded.

It became almost a full-time job to keep abreast of the rules!

That’s oppression almost as bad as that in North Korea – it is almost like being watched and examined by the ‘thought-police’.

I did a consulting job for a large non-profit organisation about 9 years ago – it was no better there.  This time it was political correctness that ruled the culture due to an over-bearing operations director.

The organisation was looking after people with learning difficulties and you had to very careful with your terminology so as not offend anyone.  I hate political correctness and was glad when my assignment ended.  It’s just another way of suppressing your thoughts and behaviour.

In every job you get customers you would rather not deal with but have to for one reason or another.  In banking it was sometimes because their financial position was very good (or bad).

If a customer was in a bad financial position and you didn’t like them this was the worst position of all because no-one else wanted them and you were stuck with each other in trying to resolve a difficult situation.  There’s really no joy in business when you are forced to deal with each other from a position of mutual dislike!

When you are in a job you can often think that the business strategy is crap but you have to comply (or at least be seen to comply).

I well remember a diktat from Head Office in the recession of the early 1990’s requiring us to put up the interest margins for all customers. Ironically,  the bank liked to think that we were ‘relationship’ managers i.e. that we nurtured a long-term, supportive relationship with our customers.

I’m not sure how they squared that thought with kicking our customers in the goolies when  they were already down and fighting for survival. That sort of treatment is never forgotten and, quite rightly, a relationship of mutual trust is lost forever.

The other problem is that ‘creatives’ are not welcome in an organisation that works by a set of rules – they don’t want you to change things or create anything.  In fact you are a dangerous individual if you start to buck the system.

The other factor is the daily commute.  My daughter and son-in-law currently have a 3 hour, uncomfortable daily commute into London each day – that’s a massive portion of their life wasted travelling on unreliable public transport!

And it costs them a small fortune in train fares to participate in this madness!

In my bank, the organisation was so vast that they had an internal directory that was a couple of inches thick.  The fact is that I couldn’t track down the person responsible if even I had wanted to suggest any changes.  The job roles of those responsible for particular services bore no relationship to the actual services themselves!

Of course, starting your own business does not shield you from the absurdities of business.  The only reassurance I can offer you in that regard is that at least the absurdities are usually of your own making.  You can choose to change them yourself because you alone are responsible for everything that happens, good or bad, in your business.

This is what ‘freedom‘ means.  It brings new responsibilities and you have to set your own standards and rules for doing business.

Personally, I would now rather live in a cardboard box than comply with someone else’s rules (- this is why I hate all politicians and particularly those in the EU who are unelected).

Starting your own business allows you to create something that works in a way that fits in with your values and the way you would like to earn a living i.e. doing something that really interests you, in a way that you feel comfortable with.

In many ways the stresses and responsibilities of running your own small business are even greater than being one of the sheeple i.e. a compliant employee creating someone else’s vision of what their business should be.  If you fail, then you may have to return to employment to earn a living having had an intoxicating taste of freedom.

That thought alone will drive me to success in my business!

The other big benefit of knowing what you are selling is that you can start to define your target market i.e. who might be interested in what you have to offer.  In my case it will be people either looking for a viable exit from their job or who have left a job and want to stay out of a job (like me!)

But first I needed to ask the question ‘What Am I Selling?’ because it is vital that I understand what I am really selling and I think I have the answer. I am selling FREEDOM.

My Next Product Is Email-ATM – It’s All About Email Marketing

I’ve decided that my next product should be Email-ATM – it’s a product that’s all about email marketing.

In the past, this has not been an great area of strength (or interest) for me:

  • I’ve lacked a proper strategy
  • I’ve lacked consistency
  • I’ve really failed to focus on this area of my business

This is massively stupid because this is a key area for any online business – creating a list and communicating with that list.  It’s not as if I don’t know what I should be doing!  In the past, I’ve bought a number of products on email marketing and it’s now a question of putting it all into practice.

These are some of the things that I am planning to put into place as I create Email-ATM as a product:

  • 7 day-follow-up series for each list
  • after 7 days, my lists will receive daily broadcast emails with a mixture of value and promotional information
  • I will be formatting and structuring my emails better
  • emails will be created within a relevant framework that makes sense to my customers
  • emails will be planned for at least 90 days and eventually longer
  • I will be monitoring open and click through rates with a view to improving my performance
  • I will be cleaning up my lists on a regular basis
  • I will create an avatar of my ideal customer
  • promotions will be carefully selected to be relevant to the storyline of my emails which will follow my consulting framework (see Businessstoryboards)

I’ve already created a number of high value bonuses, (some  from PLR material) that I hold:

  • The Ultimate Copywriting Swipe File – this is a collectionof links to free copywriting resources recommended by Warriors on the Warrior Forum
  • Surefire Solo Ads – this is all about building a list and making money with solo ads
  • Emails in the Cloud – as you list gets bigger, the costing of sending emails rises.  You can mitigate by using ‘the cloud’ to send emails – this training shows you how to use Mail Jet.
  • Get Response Training – I generally use Aweber as my auto-responder supplier, but it is useful to know about other solutions like Get Response. This training shows you how to maximise your use of Get Response.

Alongside the development of Email-ATM, I am going to put more effort into growing my list as follows:

  • driving more traffic to
  • more squeeze pages and funnels (one coach I know has 50!)
  • better monitoring & testing of my stats and use of split-testing.
  • increasing my speed of implementation

I have just purchased a ready-made, high-converting affiliate funnel for the first time – I’m going to test this and, if it works, consider purchasing more.  At the very least, I intend to reverse-engineer this funnel to see how it was created.

Traffic sources will be:

  • Facebook Ads
  • Solo Ads
  • Promoted YouTube videos
  • Google Hangouts – I am planning a series of short video workshops that will be keyword optimised.

If you would like access to any of the above bonuses to Email-ATM that are all related to email marketing, then please feel free to make me an offer I can’t refuse!  Alternatively, you will have to wait for the launch of this product.

Emails in the Cloud

You are probably already aware that emails in the cloud are a great way of reducing the long-term cost of your email marketing.

The popular email auto-responders like Aweber and Get Response have conditioned us into believing that we need to pay more the bigger our list gets and the more emails that we send out.

Amazon AWS offers emails in the cloud but as far as I can see you need to be a technical wiz to get this up and running.

I was therefore interested to find comprehensive video training on a cloud service called MailJet .  The creator of the training has looked at the alternatives available in the marketplace and settled on this service as being a great option.

I have therefore purchased access to the training videos and I am re-selling access to the training only for just $17.  (That’s a huge $30 discount on the recommended retail price.)

If you are wondering how much you can save versus your existing email provider then this pricing page will give you a good reason for buying access to this training.

I have placed the training on the new membership site that I am building called Email-ATM.com as a bonus but for the time being you can purchase separate access to this bonus just for reading this article!

I will still use Aweber for the time being in addition to setting up emails in the cloud until I have tested this service more extensively.

Where To Get Traffic From?

This week I have been reviewing the thorny question – where to get traffic from?

This is one of the most pressing questions that I have at the present moment.

I have plenty of products and I now need to start promoting what I have created.  A number of my sales letters require a bit of improvement but I am guessing about this until I start sending traffic to them and monitoring the conversions.

With my first blog at http://businessrenegade.co.uk, I had quite a bit of success in attracting SEO traffic simply due to the quantity of posts on that blog.  However, conversion of this traffic to actual money was disappointing.

Why was that?

I think that without making a personal connection with the reader, whilst the information on that blog is valuable, the information in and of itself is pretty dry.

I therefore need to concentrate on a number of factors to make my content more attractive:

  • try to make my content entertaining as well as informative
  • introduce more of myself – probably in the form of audio and video
  • keep the quality of information extremely high
  • to differentiate the presentation of the information – perhaps through higher quality copy, images and outstanding presentation

I also need to state the intent of my business with greater clarity and passion so that subscribers to my blog and content know exactly what they are subscribing to i.e. how to start and grow an online business that generates an income of at least $100,000 p.a..

I also need to target a segment of the market and speak directly to an ‘avatar’ in order to make a connection.  In my mind, it only makes sense to target people exactly like myself who have left a job in order to find freedom and independence through starting their own online business.

I understand these people’s feelings, and the problems they are facing, with intimacy and can empathise with their journey.

Having first sorted out exactly what I stand for, and will be delivering in the way of content and products, and exactly who I want to help, I can turn my attention to methods for driving traffic.

I have in mind 3 or 4 alternatives:

#1 Facebook Ads

Advertising on Facebook makes perfect sense to me:

  • it is where my target market is on a daily basis
  • I can target my market very, very precisely with my advertising
  • I can build an audience and add them to my list over time using strategies such as surveys ( a strategy set out in List Liberation)
  • done properly, you can scientifically measure return on investment

With this in mind, I have spent 1 day this week going through some excellent Facebook Advertising Tutorials on Learn to Blog (formerly WP Classroom)

#2 Webinars

Webinars have the highest potential of converting attendees to buyers (apart from perhaps Live Events).  With the advent of Google Hangouts on Air, the technology is no longer a barrier and it will enable me to make an instant personal connection to my audience.

Google Hangouts also rank very well in Google if I optimise the title of the webinar with keywords.

I invested in Webinar Alchemy by Stephen Renton this week – done properly, webinars have enormous potential.  (This was another day of training.)Webinar Alchemy

Again it is important to monitor traffic, registrations, attendance and sales conversions to understand my ROI.

As I also own a copy of Evergreen Business Systems, which enables me to automate webinars, I have all the tools necessary for this strategy.

It will also be possible to get webinar registrations, by leveraging Facebook Ads.

#3 YouTube Marketing

I also think there is enormous potential for creating short videos and placing them on both Facebook and YouTube. Then using both Facebook Advertising and YouTube PPC to promote them to drive traffic to a landing page.  The PPC stats will enable me to measure advertising ROI precisely.

(I am moving away from SEO as a means of driving traffic (although I will still do some optimisation for keywords from force of habit) because ROI is not as easy to measure – it requires that you convert your time to a cost.  I suspect that if everyone did this, they would abandon SEO.  Also, the changes in Google algorythm pretty much place your business and traffic at the mercy of Google.  For this reason, I now regard SEO traffic as a bonus rather than my main source of traffic.)

Creating short videos is easy with tools like Camtasia 8 and Easy Video Suite – both of which I own.  I have also updated this week to Microsoft 2013 – this gives me the potential for creating Powerpoint animations.

#4 Recruit Affiliates

Marc Milburn, my coach is a great advocate of recruiting affiliates to drive traffic.  I agree but initially it is difficult to get them to promote for you if:

  • I am relatively unknown
  • I have no previous track record online
  • I cannot show that I have a sales funnel that converts

This is why it is important to get some initial traffic using the other means available so I can approach affiliates with a professional and well thought-out proposition.

However, none of the above should deter me from connecting with potential affiliates and persevering.  For this purpose, approaching them for an interview and getting to know them, and how I can connect with them, is a smart strategy

Conclusion

In answering the question – where to get traffic from – I’m going to start with Facebook Advertising and mix in the other strategies if I have time.  It is important for me not lose focus by attempting too many strategies at once.

The Way of the Warriors Is On the Launch Pad

The Way of the Warriors is coming 15th January 2014

I have finally moved The Way of the Warriors (- this is my membership site that has a high-value eBook on a proven internet marketing strategy-) onto the launch pad – it is scheduled for launch on 15th January 2014.

Why so long you may ask?  There are a number of reasons:

  • I need to create a JV blog – this is now done http://wayofthewarriors.com/jv
  • I need to sort out the sales funnel – in particular I need to change the current sales funnel and I want to upgrade the sales letters in parts of the funnel – particularly the one for Product Creation Renegade.
  • it is important to get the Christmas season out of the way
  • most importantly, I need time to recruit affiliates… and lots of them.  In fact, for 2 months prior to the launch, this will be my main task.

With regards to the revised sales letter, I want to try some high-quality Photoshop sales letter designs that I have acquired.  These have high visual appeal.  It will be interesting to compare them with the ‘down-and-dirty’ style of the Paper Template plugin that I normally use for sales letters.

Armand Morin’s Lead Generation Strategy

This week I have been thinking about how to increase the number of people joining my list.  With this view in mind, I started to create some free eBooks to give away.

Then last night I was catching up on the recordings of Armand Morin’s Webcamp and was gob-smacked to discover that he is ‘too lazy’ to create give-aways.  He then explained that by giving away some free-stuff in return for the optin you are doing two things:

  • letting the prospect off the hook psychologically – they’ve given you the optin in return for your free gift – so they are less likely to buy the subsequent offer in the funnel.  He then explained that when he started out as a hoover salesman he would never accept a drink or anything from his prospective  customer until he had closed the sale i.e. the customer lessened the obligation created by giving them his time through giving him a drink of water.
  • second, the prospect will have an excuse to delay a decision to buy i.e. ‘I’ll read the free gift before I decide whether to buy’.

He therefore creates an optin page that just piques their curiosity e.g. ‘To find out how to lose 12 pounds within 24 hours – just click here’ – after opting in the prospect is taken straight to the weight-loss sales letter.

This enables him to create multiple optin pages for the same sales letter – he likes to create 30 optin pages for the same sales letter, each addressing a different reason why a person should lose weight e.g.

  • lose weight after child-birth
  • lose weight for your wedding
  • lose weight for your holiday
  • lose weight to due to diabetes
  • lose weight to look better
  • lose weight to run faster
  • and so on

Each optin page will then have 5 or 6 adverts – each advert is matched to the optin page – same issue, same image so that you directly address the issue that caused the person to click on the ad – this obviously leads to higher conversions.  The issue is dealt with as a bullet point in the generic lose-weight sales letter and the person naturally assumes that the letter is speaking to them.

Here are some of the rules that he adopts with this strategy:

  • he can create multiple optin pages fast using a free plugin called Post Duplicator that simply creates a duplicate of the optin page and you only then need to make a couple of changes to create an entirely new optin page
  • create one optin page at a time and get it converting at 20% or more
  • the sales page must convert at 3% or more
  • if both these conversion rates are in place, he calculates that he can make any advertising pay
  • he tracks conversions using Link Trackr (- this has a monthly recurring cost and I therefore think that a tool like Quality Click Control is ultimately cheaper to use)
  • you can increase sales page conversions by having a $1 trial (- this needs to be tested to see whether your ultimate sales take is better as your refund rate might be higher too!)

Armand Morin's Optin Strategy

If you create 30 optin pages that convert at the required level, as Armand advocates, then you get potentially massive leverage and results.

Let me know in the comments section below what you think of this strategy.

I met Rob Cornish at Alex Jeffries event earlier this year.  Rob is one of the marketers whose emails do get through to my inbox.  In fact, it was one of his posts that stopped me from buying Optimize Press 2 – he is definitely one of the good guys in my opinion.

I also bought Christine Clayfield’s epic eBook entitled ‘From Newbie to Millionaire’ – she is definitely an over-achiever so I am looking forward to meeting her.  I know less about the other speakers but suffice it to say, I am going to the event with my networking hat on!

Hopefully I can start recruiting some potential affiliates for The Way of the Warriors launch on 15th January 2014 – we shall see!
